Events › "Northern Star" Film Screening with Director Nick Versteeg and Author R. Peter Broughton

Join us for a film screening of the documentary “Northern Star: Life of Canadian Astronomer J.S. Plaskett ” (95 minutes). Directed by Nick Versteeg. 

While Canadians have always looked to the stars, the first to seriously investigate the makeup of the stars and the structure of our universe was John S. Plaskett, who was raised on a farm near Woodstock, Ontario. This documentary looks at how Plaskett exploited his lifelong interest in scientific devices to champion the creation of a gigantic telescope near Victoria B.C. and become the father of astrophysics in Canada.

Following the film, there will be a Q&A talk with "Northern Star" documentary filmmaker Nick Versteeg and author R. Peter Broughton.  Copies of the book "Northern Star", published by University of Toronto Press, will be available to purchase (while supplies last).
